This is the website and blog of Jeremy Wakeford, an independent sustainability economist and consultant specialising in energy and resource issues and applying an ‘integral’ approach to development. Jeremy holds Masters Degrees in Economics from the Universities of Cape Town and Cambridge. Until June 2008 he was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town. He has recently submitted his PhD dissertation at Stellenbosch University, on the topic “Socioeconomic implications of global oil depletion for South Africa: vulnerabilities, impacts and transition to sustainability”.
Jeremy is the Chairman of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil South Africa (ASPO-SA), a non-profit organisation that was formed to conduct research into and create awareness about the implications of the peaking and decline of world oil production. Jeremy is also Research Director of the South African New Economics (SANE) network, a group dedicated to researching and advocating a sustainable and just economic system.
